Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)

Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD) is an award-winning reflexology technique, which focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet – encouraging the lymph to move in the body.

This specialist technique can not only benefit sufferers of lymphoedema (or other swelling conditions the body), but can help reduce the symptoms of many other conditions, such as: arthritis, asthma, eczema, chronic fatigue, migraines, headaches, IBS, muscular tension, aches and pains, as well as post operative recovery.

I use some RLD techniques at the beginning of all treatments, as I feel everyone can benefit from it.

Alternatively, RLD can be performed as a stand-alone (50 minute treatment). Please get in touch with me to discuss whether you feel a full RLD treatment is something you think you would benefit from.

Maternity Reflexology

I qualified in Maternity Reflexology in 2019. I find treating maternity clients so fascinating – there are so many different reflexology techniques to try as pregnancy comes with so many symptoms! It’s such a precious time in a woman’s life and it’s so special to be part of it! Your comfort comes as paramount throughout the course of a treatment.

Having reflexology during pregnancy can offer many benefits:

  • Encourages deep relaxation

  • Reduces anxiety

  • Reduces any feelings of stress

  • Improves quality of sleep.

I would strongly encourage you to have treatments regularly throughout your pregnancy, to gain the most benefits out of your treatments. Research and studies have shown that regular reflexology during pregnancy can lead to shorter labours with less medical intervention. (Valiani M et al 2010)

A lot of women contact me towards the end of their pregnancy, nearing their due date, which can be frustrating, as I don’t always have the appointment availability at such short notice!

As with all my clients, I use Reflexology Lymph Drainage at the beginning of all treatments. This can be really beneficial for pregnant ladies suffering with mild or moderate swollen feet and ankles (oedema). A 2003 study by Mollart showed that pregnant women with oedema reported relief of discomfort from reflexology lymph drainage techniques.

Preparation for Birth

There is no special button I can press on the foot, which makes you go into labour, I am afraid! However, there is a specific treatment I can perform called ‘Priming for Labour’ – a treatment that focuses on relaxation and stimulation of reflex and acupressure points in the feet. Because the treatment might feel quite stimulating, it may provide a boost in energy and help to balance hormones.

Please note, that I only carry out this treatment when you have passed your due date, have had at least one ‘standard’ maternity treatment with me first and have no obstetric problems.

As with all reflexology treatments, everybody responds differently, and at the end of the day, baby will come, when baby is ready.

What my clients say: ‘I first visited Rachel whilst I was 8 months pregnant and had sessions weekly up until my due date. I genuinely believe it is why I went into labour naturally, as I went into labour the evening after our last session. Rachel helped me relax and feel comfortable, all I needed for a spontaneous labour. Rachel goes above and beyond to give you the best service as possible. I know she personally researched techniques to assist me and I am so grateful.’ ~ Lauren

Fertility Reflexology

Trying for a baby can be a stressful and isolating experience – especially if you have been trying for a while, or are having to go down the route of medical intervention. Having been through fertility treatment myself, I can empathise greatly with what my clients are going through. So many emotions and feelings arise when struggling to get pregnant – deep sadness, guilt, anger, loneliness – all these feelings are extremely normal, but can feel very overwhelming. Having reflexology helps your nervous system to relax and ease some tension, during this stressful time.

I feel very passionate about passing what I know from my own experience to my clients, as well as just being a listening ear. For your first treatment, you will be asked to fill in a consultation form and answer some questions about your fertility journey so far, including: your menstrual cycle, lifestyle, as well as any medical conditions you may have. Just like with any other client, I will write a treatment plan for you, which will focus on treating you as a whole person (holistically), as well as focusing on the main reflexes that support with fertility. Together, we will work to help bring your body into a more balanced state, ensuring you are in the best health for conception and a healthy pregnancy.

There is no evidence that reflexology interferes with medical fertility treatments and if stress is reduced, and relaxation created, then medical procedures will feel easier.

Frequency of Treatments: Ideally weekly sessions for 4-6 weeks, then moving to fortnightly or monthly as balance is restored. This allows the body timed to reduce the effects of stress and regulate hormones.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a safe, natural complementary therapy. It involves the technique of massage, applying gentle pressure on the feet or hands, to bring about a deep state of relaxation and to stimulate the body’s own healing processes. It is based on the theory that different reflex points on the feet and hands, correspond to different areas of the body.

Your very first appointment will be longer, as we will fill in a consultation form together. This form gives me a clear picture about your specific health concerns and current goals.

All treatments thereafter, begin with a chat about how things are going and if you’ve had any changes since your last treatment.

All treatments are tailored to support your individual needs.

Many clients fall asleep during the treatment, whilst others say they feel they are in a trance-like, floaty state. We all respond differently to treatment, there is no right or wrong. Your body responds in a way that it needs to and does all the work to rebalance itself. I am just the facilitator!

What my clients say: 'Highly recommend Rachel, very professional and her treatment makes you feel so much better and also gives you a good nights sleep. A very relaxed atmosphere. Everyone should try her skills at reflexology.' ~ Christine

Hand Reflexology

This treatment is ideal if you don't like the idea of your feet being touched, but still want to gain the benefits of reflexology. As with foot reflexology, hand reflexology involves the technique of massage and applying gentle pressure, to bring about a deep state of relaxation and to stimulate the body’s own healing processes. It is based on the theory that different reflex points on the hands, correspond to different areas of the body.

For hand reflexology, you will sit in a supportive chair with your hands resting over a table. A blanket can be placed over your shoulders for extra warmth and comfort. Wearing a short-sleeved top is best.
